Chey versus Best Buy

As I may have mentioned in the past, I have been working with Best Buy to repair my laptop. Fortunately, I purchased the performance service plan on it when I bought it three years ago. The laptop worked great for the first six months or so, but then it started to overheat (that's my diagnoses). The PSP states that if Best Buy can't fix it in three tries, I get a new one.

Well, three repair attempts came and went and they didn't fix it. Ironically, they were never able to identify the problem, which I knew from the beginning. They replaced just about every part that the laptop had at least twice. Yesterday, they finally called me and told me to come in and get my replacement.

When I bought my laptop, it was the top of the line at the time. It had a 17" screen and specifications that were capable of playing EverQuest II (impressive, especially for a three year old laptop). The PSP says that they will replace my laptop with one of a "comparable" quality. The sales guys tried to give me a laptop that was no slouch, but wasn't what I wanted. I wanted another Toshiba laptop. Throughout the replacement process, they never once asked me what type of laptop that I wanted. I eventually had to pull out the "I know what I'm talking about" card with my certifications. They stopped trying to push the lesser quality laptop on me at that point.

Basically, what I wanted was a 15" Toshiba laptop that is probably about three times as good as my last one. We eventually reached the agreement that they would only give me the lesser laptop, and if I wanted to get the better one, I had to pay the difference. The difference - $150. So in other words, I got this killer laptop for $150 :)
