Ah, that's the question. On Monday, a guy that I worked with showed me a picture of his new puppy and said that there were still a couple that needed a home. It was an adorable black, 8-week old black lab/german shepherd mix and I decided then and there that I was getting one. First, I had to battle Matt. We've had this discussion a few times. He finally agreed to at least go and look at it, but when I called the lady, she said they only had one left and gave me another number to call. I called that number, but never heard anything back.
So that didn't work out, but it doesn't mean I still don't want a puppy. I'm still trying to get Matt on board, because it's kind of important that he not hate the dog. It's his home, too, and I don't want him to be uncomfortable. I can't imagine that he wouldn't end up loving a little ball of fur, though, because he likes the cats a lot. Now, I am weighing the pros and cons myself and am fully aware of the amount of work that goes into having a puppy, much less a dog. But I'm looking forward to the challenge of training a really young pup.
We might start out a bit slower, though, and maybe get a dog from a shelter who's a little older, maybe a year or so. I think it might be better for Matt to have a calmer dog that's outgrown the chewing, crying, accidents and naughtiness. I know it won't always be fun and games, but I'd like a pet that plays a little bit more than the cats. And I still want either a german shepherd or a lab. Or maybe a golden retriever. We'll see what happens in the coming months!
