My sleep is broken

I've become convinced that there's something inside of my brain that is broken. For many many years now, I've had trouble both falling asleep and staying asleep without the aid of sleeping pills. Sometimes I can't seem to get my brain to "wind down" but other times it just feels like I don't know how to fall asleep. I've gotten just about every trick in the book from many people over the years, but the only thing that really seems to do any good is sleeping pills. If I don't take Tylenol PM before I go to bed, odds are I won't fall asleep, but if I do, I'll wake up in a couple of hours wide awake (as is the case right now). This is frustrating when I don't have anything to do the next day, but when I finally start working, it's going to be a big problem. As soon as we have health insurance again, I'm going to ask a doctor about it. I'm sure I'll just be given more sleeping pills.
