Horror movie desensitization

Matt and I went ot see the new Exorcist movie out in theaters tonight. Like all but one horror flick, it just left us laughing. It has your typical formula for a horror movie - dark places, demonic possession, stupid white people, a female shower scene, etc etc. It gets me to thinking that way back when the original Exorcist probably genuinely freaked a lot of people out. We've just gotten too used to them, the bar is continuously raised.

The only movie to ever really scare me was The Blair Witch Project. Matt said the same thing. It certainly wasn't for special effects or the tremendous acting. Instead, it was the psychological part of the movie - you didn't know what you were scared of, but it got in your head and stayed there. It was hard for me to go into my own basement without picturing that guy in the corner for months afterwards.

Matt has off of work until Monday, and then should get Tuesday off, too. Tomorrow night we are going out with some of his buddies, and Sunday we were going to do the beach thing, but it's supposed to rain. Hopefully, it will be nice Tuesday. That works better, anyway, because then most of the tourists will be gone and there will be much more beach space for us :)

The original Exorcist scared the shit out of me for a long time! I have no desire to see the new one.
